Harris Farms Moves to Hemp Cultivation

Pahrump, NV – Harris Farms moves to growing industrial hemp, choosing Tree of Life Seed’s premium genetics for first crop.

Father and son team, Hollis and Dan Harris, have over 60 years of farming experience with past crops focused on cotton, sugar beets, mint, alfalfa and lettuce. After being approved for Nevada’s Industrial Hemp Development Program, Harris Farms planted their first industrial hemp crop earlier this year. Pahrump’s dry climate and long, hot summers provide ideal conditions for hemp cultivation. Since industrial hemp requires less water, the shift was ideal for Harris Farms. According to Dan Harris, “in our dry climate, this (water) is very important to us. We will be monitoring our water usage closely.”

Harris Farms teamed up with an industry leader to make this crop a reality. Harris conducted extensive research on hemp varieties rich in Cannabidiol also known as CBD. They selected Tree of Life Seeds, headquartered in Denver, to be their provider of CBD rich premium hemp genetics. Harris was the first farm of 2017 to purchase Tree of Life Seeds genetics and combined with the agricultural expertise of Harris Farms, this first crop is expected to be a huge success.
